On the appearance of the rash the fever increases slightly and the inflamed condition of the eyes becomes more marked; the cough may increase in severity, and deafness may be present from swelling of the Eustachian tubes. After the second or third day of the eruption, the fever disappears, the temperature becomes natural; the pulse less frequent, and the patient usually commences to get well. The time required to restore the patient to perfect Health depends upon the age, previous Health, and whether there has been scrofula or other diseases. The eruption of measles varies greatly in amount. At first much scattered, the spots become grouped, and assume the form of irregularly circular patches. It is most abundant on the face, and less and less towards the extremities. In color it appears to bo a mixture of red and yellow. By pressure the red disappears and a slight yellow discoloration remains. It lasts a variable time, but generally disappears in from ten to twenty days from the commencement of the disease. Sometimes, owing to a serious internal inflammation, mostly of the lungs, the.rash may suddenly disappear; this is commonly called "striking in." The most serious results which may follow an attack of measles aro inflammation of the eyes, bronchitis, consumption and diphtheria. The inflammation of the eyes may be severe, but very rarely so much so as to cause blindness. If care is not taken to avoid exposure during convalescence, chronic bronchitis may be very easily produced. Consumption is liable to occur only when there is a predisposition to that disease.
